POLICE are investigating the alleged murder of 34-year-old fisherman, Franklyn Sauers, called ‘Franky’, who was reportedly stabbed during an altercation at Albion Front, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday night.
Sauers, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, was found with apparent stab wounds to his neck and left rib area after police responded to a report at about 22:00 hrs.
According to preliminary investigations, Sauers and a 28-year-old fisherman of Albion Front were known to each other.
Police said the suspect was at his residence when Sauers reportedly entered the house, following which an altercation ensued.
Police ranks subsequently responded to the location and found Sauers lying motionless in the living room with the apparent injuries.
The 28-year-old suspect was contacted at the scene, arrested and taken to the Albion Police Station, where he remains in custody.
Sauers was transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was subsequently taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the alleged murder are continuing.
