Police investigate discovery of unidentified man’s body in Georgetown canal

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the partially decomposed body of an unidentified man in a canal at Lombard and Sussex Streets, Georgetown, on Monday morning.
The body, believed to be that of a man in his late 40s, was found floating in the canal near a koker at about 07:00 hrs.
According to preliminary investigations, a machine operator attached to the Mayor and City Council observed the body in the canal and raised an alarm.
Police ranks subsequently responded and visited the scene, where they found the body clad in a blue checkered shirt, black pants and black boots.
The body was examined at the scene, and no marks of violence were observed, police said.
It was subsequently removed and taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.
