A CASE file arising from the discovery of a Glock 19 pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, has been sent for legal advice as police continue investigations into the alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
The development follows statements obtained from Member of Parliament Natasha Singh and 35-year-old businessman Shane Fordyce, both of whom were informed by detectives that they were being investigated for the alleged offence.
Police said Singh was contacted at about 09:00 hrs on Wednesday, August 26, and, after being cautioned and consulting with her attorney, provided a written statement.
Fordyce was contacted at about 10:58 hrs the same day and, after also consulting with his attorney, provided a written statement.
Singh was subsequently released on $200,000 station bail, while Fordyce remains in police custody. The motor car involved in the investigation also remains lodged.
The investigation stems from the discovery of the firearm and ammunition at about 00:15 hrs on August 26 at a property along the Friendship Public Road.
According to police, ranks from Regional Police Division 4 ‘B’, acting on information received, intercepted motor car PAH 4034, a black Toyota Allion, which was occupied by Fordyce and Singh.
A search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of both occupants, allegedly resulted in the discovery of a bag in the trunk containing a Glock 19 9mm pistol, a magazine with 12 live rounds of ammunition and a photocopy of a firearm licence issued in the name of Dawn Hastings-Williams.
The firearm, magazine and ammunition were taken into police possession and subsequently lodged at the Ballistics Section at Eve Leary for safekeeping.
As part of the investigation, Hastings-Williams was interviewed at Regional Police Division 4 ‘B’ Headquarters. Police said she provided a statement and handed over a copy of Firearm Licence No. 191501, dated February 16, 2026, which relates to a Glock 19 9mm pistol bearing serial number BBVD168.
Both Singh and Fordyce were initially arrested and taken to the Farm/Herstelling Police Station along with the vehicle.
With the investigation now advanced to the stage of legal advice, police said further action will be determined based on the advice received.
Investigations remain ongoing.
