AN 18-year-old Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident has been granted $600,000 bail after being charged in connection with a road accident that claimed the life of another teenager on Saturday, August 15.
Eric Pross was brought before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.
At the court, Pross was charged with causing the death of 18-year-old Zahair Khan through dangerous driving. He was not required to plead.
The presiding magistrate granted Pross bail with several conditions, including the surrender of his passport to the Sparendaam Police Station. He was also ordered to report to the police station every Monday until the conclusion of the proceedings.
Pross is expected to return to court on October 2, 2026.
The charge stems from a crash along Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, which left both Pross and Khan injured.
According to reports, the teenagers were travelling in the same vehicle when it was allegedly being driven at a high rate of speed along the roadway. The vehicle subsequently overturned several times, leaving both occupants injured.
Pross was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Following the crash, both teenagers were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical attention. Khan, however, later succumbed to his injuries.
