– 11 NGSA achievers honoured; more than 100 youths receive school supplies
Young members of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Youth and Scout Groups in Regional Division #3 were rewarded for their academic achievements and spelling skills on Wednesday when the Division hosted its annual Youth and Scout Spelling Bee Competition and recognised outstanding 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers.
The event, held at the Den Amstel Police Station compound, brought together participants from communities across the Division for the competition, which featured categories for children aged seven to 11 and 12 to 17.
In the younger category, Orion Devonish of Parfaite Harmonie claimed first place, while Alika Devonish, also of Parfaite Harmonie, placed second. Ramaya Biswah of La Grange secured third place.

Rawle Devonish of Parfaite Harmonie won the 12–17 category, followed by Jada Harris of Den Amstel in second place and Aron Harris, also of Den Amstel, in third.
The top performers received trophies, bicycles, tablets and other prizes.
The programme was chaired by Inspector Martin, who also introduced the judges.
Regional Commander of Regional Division #3, Assistant Commissioner Khali Pareshram, commended the participants for their performances and thanked parents, guardians and youth leaders for their continued support.
The Division also recognised 11 outstanding 2026 NGSA achievers drawn from the Police Youth and Scout Groups and among the children of police officers. They received plaques and school bags with supplies.
More than 100 other youths from the Police Youth and Scout Groups and families of police officers also received school bags and supplies ahead of the new school term.
The recognition comes against the backdrop of Guyana’s strongest-ever NGSA performance, with the Ministry of Education reporting improvements across all four subject areas. Twenty pupils attained the highest possible standardised score of 484.52, while several students from Region Three were among the country’s top performers.
The GPF has identified youth engagement and literacy as priorities under its Strategic Plan, which includes expanding Youth and Scout Groups, facilitating literacy programmes and strengthening youth development initiatives within the regional divisions.
Regional Division #3, which covers Essequibo Islands-West Demerara and is headed by Assistant Commissioner Pareshram, has stations and police facilities across communities including Den Amstel, La Grange and La Parfaite Harmonie.
Wednesday’s event therefore formed part of the Force’s broader effort to promote literacy, academic excellence and positive youth development while recognising the achievements of young people connected to its community programmes.
The initiative followed the GPF’s national youth engagement efforts, including its 2026 Annual Youth Camp, which brought together more than 100 young people from police regional divisions for activities aimed at developing character, confidence and leadership.
