A 26-YEAR-OLD miner was fatally shot during an altercation at Prasville, Wismar, Linden, on Wednesday morning, with police detaining a 29-year-old man as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing continue.
Dead is Keron McDonald, of Block 22, Wismar, Linden, who was shot once to the left side of his chest at about 10:00 hrs.
According to the police, McDonald was engaged in a conversation with the 29-year-old suspect, of Half Mile, Wismar, when an altercation developed between the two men.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly retrieved a firearm from a motor car and discharged a single round in McDonald’s direction, striking him in the chest.
McDonald was subsequently taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Police rank later intercepted the 29-year-old suspect and escorted him to the Wismar Police Station, where he remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
Police said no firearm has been recovered at this stage.
Investigations into the fatal shooting are ongoing.
