A 29-year-old Police Constable has been placed under close arrest as police investigate an alleged firearm-related incident at Policeman Corner, Westminster, West Bank Demerara, on Monday night.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 20:30h and involved the Police Constable, who is from Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, and a 25-year-old Quality Health Safety and Environment Officer of Phase One, Westminster.
According to preliminary investigations, the 25-year-old man was standing along the roadway with several other persons when a motor car allegedly approached the area and came close to colliding with his motorcycle.
An exchange reportedly followed, during which the Police Constable allegedly exited the vehicle, lifted his jersey and held what appeared to be a firearm at his waist.
The action reportedly caused fear among the persons present.
Acting on information received, police ranks intercepted the motor car and contacted the driver, who was identified as a Police Constable.
A search was subsequently conducted, during which ranks reportedly found what appeared to be a toy gun.
The Constable was escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where he was placed under close arrest pending further investigations.
Police said the probe is continuing.
