OLYMPIAN, Raekwon Noel showed his class and pedigree once again for Guyana at the ongoing Central America and Caribbean Games, capturing his third gold medal on Saturday evening at the Juan Pablo Duarte Aquatic Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Noel reset the CAC Games and national records to capture his third gold medal in the men’s 200-metre freestyle event.

The swimmer improved his personal best time and national record by two seconds with a time of one minute 47.08 seconds.

It erased the CAC Games record of one minute 47. 19 set by Mexico’s Jorge Iga at the 2018 games in Colombia and his own national record of one minute 49.04 seconds, which was his entry time in the event.

Former record holder Iga, who swam in the event, had to settle for silver in one minute 47.95 seconds.

Nikoli Blackman of Trinidad and Tobago was third for bronze in one minute 49.41 seconds.

Earlier on Saturday, he was the second-fastest swimmer in the 200-metre freestyle heats.

Noel won his heat in one minute 52.43 seconds, comfortably beating Venezuela’s Adanuriel Rosalá and Costa Rica’s Alberto Vega, who finished second and third, respectively.

Noel, who had already given Guyana two gold medals – the 200-metre individual medley and 200 butterfly final, while setting new national and CAC Games records), -went into the final with an entry time of one minute 49.04 seconds.

Iga was the fastest out of the combined heats, with a time of one minute 52.33 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ariel Rodrigues copped third place in her heat with a time of 31.40, with her country-mate Shareefah Lewis in fourth in 31.41 seconds. It was not enough to send either of her swimmers into the finals.
