FIFTEEN tour guides from Santa Mission, Arrowpoint Nature Resort, and Waia Lodge have enhanced their emergency response skills after successfully completing the Bronze Medallion Lifeguard Training Programme facilitated by the Guyana Lifesavers Association.
The three-day training exercise was conducted from July 28 to 30, 2026, at Arrowpoint Nature Resort, where participants received intensive practical and theoretical instruction in water safety and emergency response.
Throughout the programme, the tour guides were trained in open-water swimming, rescue techniques, casualty carries, spinal injury management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid and emergency response scenarios.
Each exercise reinforced the importance of preparedness and the critical role trained first responders play in saving lives.
With ecotourism continuing to expand in Guyana, organisers noted that equipping tour guides with lifesaving skills is essential to ensuring the safety of both visitors and the communities they serve.
The training was designed to provide participants with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to respond effectively to water-related emergencies.
The Guyana Lifesavers Association was commended for facilitating the programme and recognised for its expert instruction and commitment to strengthening water safety across the country.
Participants were also congratulated for their dedication, teamwork and determination throughout the training.
“Together, we’re building a safer future—one trained lifesaver at a time,” the programme coordinator said.
