THE Ministry of Education has opened applications for the second cohort of the National Education Leadership Academy (NELA) Flagship Training Programme, with 100 school and district leaders expected to be selected for specialised leadership training.
The programme, which is scheduled to begin in December 2026, is intended to strengthen leadership capacity within Guyana’s education system and equip education professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to improve learning outcomes and drive positive change in schools and communities.
The ministry is inviting school and district leaders who are committed to improving educational performance and strengthening the delivery of quality education to apply for the next cohort.
Through the programme, participants will be exposed to leadership-development opportunities designed to promote stronger collaboration, improve decision-making and support more effective management within schools and education districts.
The training will also focus on building the capacity of education leaders to identify challenges, implement practical solutions and create learning environments that support improved student outcomes.
The establishment of the National Education Leadership Academy forms part of the ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen leadership and institutional capacity across the education sector.
By investing in the professional development of school and district leaders, the ministry aims to support more effective education management and ensure that leadership practices contribute directly to improved teaching, learning and student achievement.
Interested applicants can submit their applications through the Ministry of Education’s online NELA platform.
Applications are currently open, and the selected cohort of 100 education leaders is expected to commence the programme in December.
