$17.5B supplementary funding approved to advance National Housing Programme

THE National Assembly has approved $17.5 billion in supplementary funding for the Ministry of Housing under Supplementary Financial Paper Number 1 of 2026, providing a significant boost to the Government’s ongoing housing programme.
Both Minister of Housing, the Hon. Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry of Housing, the Hon. Vanessa Benn were in Parliament to support the Supplementary Financial Paper.
The allocation forms part of the $54.9 billion Supplementary Financial Paper, successfully piloted by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, and will support the continued expansion of housing infrastructure and homeownership initiatives across Guyana.
The additional funding will enable the Ministry to accelerate the development of new and existing housing schemes, advance critical infrastructure works, and continue delivering on the government’s ambitious target of constructing 40,000 new homes during its current term in office.
This supplementary allocation complements the $159.1 billion approved for the housing sector in Budget 2026, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing and ensuring that more Guyanese families have the opportunity to achieve homeownership while benefiting from improved communities and enhanced quality of life.
