THE Guyana Police Force continues to deploy personnel and resources in support of the multi-agency search and recovery operation following the tragic sinking of the MV Barima, with teams conducting searches offshore and in the vicinity of the vessel’s sinking.

Ranks from the Marine Section, Tactical Services Unit, Criminal Investigation Department and Regional Police Divisions One and Two are involved in the ongoing operation, conducting searches by boat several miles offshore and in and around the area where the vessel went down.

Drone support is also being utilised to assist in locating potential survivors, persons still unaccounted for and bodies.

The Police Force is working alongside the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard and Air Corps, the French Armed Forces, the Brazilian Navy, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and other national, regional and international teams involved in the operation.

The Force said it remains committed to supporting the ongoing search and recovery efforts and will continue to deploy its personnel and resources in the search for persons still unaccounted for.
