A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed late Wednesday night after he was struck by a motor car while attempting to cross the Amelia’s Ward Public Road, Linden.
Dead is Jahiem Mc Bean, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
The accident occurred at about 23:20 hours and involved motor car PAF 6133, which was being driven by a 25-year-old resident of South Amelia’s Ward Housing Scheme, Linden.
According to initial police enquiries, the motor car was travelling east along the northern side of the roadway when Mc Bean, who was standing on the northern side, allegedly attempted to cross the road from north to south.
Police said the driver reportedly applied the brakes and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision. However, the left front portion of the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
Mc Bean sustained injuries to his body and was transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
His body is at the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home and Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Breathalyser tests conducted on the driver reportedly returned readings of 0.10 and 0.09 micrograms, respectively.
The driver remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
