THE Canadian government has expressed sorrow over the deadly MV Barima ferry disaster in Guyana, extending condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and expressing support for those still awaiting news of missing loved ones.
In a statement, Global Affairs Canada said it was “saddened by the tragic loss of life caused by the ferry sinking in Guyana”.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of those who lost their lives, and our thoughts are with those still missing,” the statement read.
The message comes as Guyana continues to mourn the victims of the tragedy, while search-and-rescue efforts remain focused on locating those still unaccounted for.
Several countries, regional organisations, and international partners have conveyed messages of sympathy and solidarity with Guyana following the disaster, offering condolences to grieving families, and support for the ongoing response.
