WEST Indies women’s skipper Hayley Matthews says the team will go hard in their final one-day international match as their goal is to gain maximum ICC championship points in this series.
The maroon warriors achieved a series win after taking the second ODI on Sunday.
Skipper, Hayley Matthews, said they are grateful for the series win, adding, “The series win is super important. Glad we could get that out of the way, but at the same time, I think we came here. The point is definitely a priority, given we were able to get four so far, the first two wins, but there are still two important points to play for. In that last match, every game is crucial when it comes to getting points for the ICC championship.”
She says her personal goal is to continue to deliver with bat and ball for her team, saying, “I think I try not to focus on the result too much but go through the process once again at the crease of doing what I need to do, and hopefully the result at the end of the day is something good.”
The West Indies women grabbed a six-wicket win on Sunday in Ireland when they clashed with the host on their one-day international tour.
Ireland, after losing the toss and being put into bat, managed 241 for 7 from their 50 overs.
Amy Hunter stroked 67 from 87 balls, with Rebecca Stokell hitting 57 from 76 deliveries.
Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews picked up two wickets each to restrict Ireland.
The maroon warriors in the chase had Hayley Mathews and Stefanie Taylor playing flawlessly to record hundreds.
Realeanna Grimmond, Dottin, and Jannillea Glasgow went cheaply.
Matthews, after carving out a classy century at the top, was dismissed for 100.
Taylor, who also scored even a hundred, played unbeaten, taking the Windies home.
Shemaine Campbelle had 10 not out as they reached 242 for 4 in 35.5 overs for the victory.
They also won the 1st ODI by 9 wickets last week Friday at the same ground.
The two teams will take to the field again today (Wednesday) in Bready, Ireland
