A 27-year-old labourer was allegedly stabbed to death during an argument while socialising with a group of people at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Naresh Seecharran, called “Cat Man,” of Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.
Police said the incident occurred at about midnight on Tuesday, July 7, while the deceased and a 20-year-old construction worker of Lochaber, East Canje, Berbice, were among a group of persons drinking alcohol and playing music.
Investigators said an argument developed between the two men before escalating into a scuffle, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Seecharran once to the left side of his neck before fleeing the scene on foot.
The injured man was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police later arrested the suspect at No. 19 Village, Corentyne, after acting on information received. He remains in custody at the Whim Police Station.
The body has been taken to Ramoo Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
