-as Minister Edghill meets Charity residents

INFRASTRUCTURE development and community transformation were among the key topics discussed as Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill met with residents of the Old Housing Scheme in Charity, Region Two, during a community engagement held as part of the government’s ongoing Cabinet Outreach.

The minister was accompanied by Member of Parliament Thandi McAllister and Mr. Ruel Johnson. Residents took the opportunity to raise concerns, identify priority projects, and discuss infrastructural needs affecting the community and surrounding areas.

The engagement forms part of the two-day Cabinet Outreach led by His Excellency, President Dr. Irfaan Ali, which is designed to bring government directly to communities, allowing citizens to engage decision-makers and contribute to the country’s development agenda.

Addressing residents, Minister Edghill reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering modern infrastructure and improving the quality of life for all Guyanese through strategic investments.

“The opportunity that Guyana has today would not last forever, and ‘yuh does gah’ strike when the iron is hot. The opportunities that exist today we didn’t have before, and they won’t always last. Luckily, we have the strategic leadership that is capitalising on this window of opportunity. I want to remind you that the complaints of the people today are not the same as they were years ago, and that is not coincidental,” the minister told residents.

He also reminded those gathered of the government’s ongoing work at the Charity Waterfront, noting that the project forms part of a wider effort to modernise public infrastructure, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic growth in Region Two.

The Cabinet Outreach continues throughout the region on Friday and Saturday, providing residents with direct access to Ministers and senior Government officials while ensuring that infrastructure development and community needs remain at the forefront of national planning.
