Two Georgetown men have been remanded to prison after appearing before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on a joint charge of robbery under arms.
Jaden Jackson, 18, of Tucville, Georgetown, and Mark Major, 25, of Waterloo Street, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the indictable charge was read to them.
The charge alleges that on June 30, 2026, the pair robbed a 20-year-old man of Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to July 17, 2026.
According to police, the victim, an auto body technician, was walking along Covent Garden New Scheme at about 20:00 hrs on June 29 when two men approached him on a motorcycle.
Investigators alleged that one of the suspects, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, got off the motorcycle, pointed the weapon at the victim and robbed him of his cellular phone before fleeing with the other suspect.
The incident was reported to the police and the stolen cellular phone was later recovered.
Jackson and Major were subsequently arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station, where they were placed into custody.
