SENIOR Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has reaffirmed Guyana’s strong partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) during a meeting with the institution’s newly appointed Vice President of Corporate Services, Gillian Charles-Gollop.
The meeting, held Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance, provided an opportunity for the government to congratulate Charles-Gollop on her recent appointment and discuss the continued collaboration between Guyana and the regional development institution.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Guyana, Dr Singh welcomed Charles-Gollop to her new role and underscored the importance of the CDB’s longstanding support for the country’s development agenda.
He noted that the Caribbean Development Bank has been a reliable partner to Guyana throughout the country’s history as a member of the institution, supporting national development efforts across a range of sectors.
Dr Singh further highlighted the bank’s ability to remain relevant and responsive as Guyana undergoes a period of rapid economic and social transformation, marked by significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, energy and other critical areas.
The Finance Minister also expressed appreciation for the CDB’s continued engagement and support, emphasising the government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the institution in pursuit of sustainable development objectives.
“Guyana remains appreciative of the CDB’s continued support and looks forward to working together to further advance sustainable development across Guyana and the region,” he stated.
The Caribbean Development Bank, headquartered in Barbados, is the Caribbean’s premier development finance institution and provides financing, technical assistance and policy support to its borrowing member countries. Over the years, the bank has financed numerous projects in Guyana, including initiatives aimed at improving transportation networks, sea and river defences, water and sanitation services, education systems and climate resilience.
The meeting comes as Guyana continues to pursue an ambitious national development programme, with the government increasingly relying on strategic partnerships with regional and international institutions to support sustainable economic growth and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Both sides expressed optimism about future collaboration and the continued strengthening of development efforts in Guyana and across the wider Caribbean region.
