THE Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a nationwide public consultation survey as part of efforts to update Guyana’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and prepare the country’s Seventh National Report (7NR) under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The initiative, led by the Government of Guyana through the Environmental Protection Agency Guyana, seeks to gather public input on how the country manages and protects its ecosystems, including forests, rivers, wetlands, coastal zones, marine areas, and wildlife resources.
According to the EPA, the updated NBSAP will serve as a key policy framework guiding national biodiversity conservation priorities and environmental management strategies.
The agency said the public consultation process is intended to ensure that citizens’ experiences, concerns, and recommendations directly inform the country’s environmental planning and reporting obligations.
The survey forms part of a wider engagement strategy designed to collect feedback from across Guyana. Information gathered will be used to help shape national biodiversity actions and may also contribute to the preparation of Guyana’s 7NR submission to the Convention on Biological Diversity, where applicable.
The EPA said participation in the survey is voluntary and confidential, with responses to be used strictly for consultation purposes. Findings will be compiled and presented in summary form, without attribution to individual respondents unless explicit permission is granted.
The questionnaire contains 20 questions and is expected to take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete. Individuals under the age of 18 are encouraged to complete the survey with guidance from a parent, guardian, teacher, or youth facilitator.
The consultation survey is available online and will remain open until July 1, 2026, accessible via EPA NBSAP Public Consultation Survey.
The EPA is encouraging members of the public to participate and contribute to the national effort to strengthen biodiversity protection and environmental planning.
Updates on the NBSAP and 7NR process are available on the agency’s website at Environmental Protection Agency Guyana under the “Projects” section, or via its official Facebook page.
