The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS comprising it’s ten cricket teams from Monday 13th of July is hosting its 36th consecutive cricket academy at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
The academy is organised by the Poonai Pharmacy Under 11 and 13, Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Bakewell Under 17 and Intermediate Second Division, Pepsi Under 19 and Intermediate, Metro Females, and Namilco Thunderbolt Flour First Division and Under 23 teams.
In addition to the cricket academy, the teams would also be hosting the annual Grade Six Summer Camp at the same venue for students preparing for entrance into secondary school.
RHTYSC Secretary Hilbert Foster disclosed that plans for both events are well advance and that a maximum of one hundred youths would be accepted in each of them.
The academy would be led by a coaching staff headed by level three coach Winston Smith.
He would be assisted by coaches Eon Hooper, Balram Samaroo, Ryan Algu, and Floyd Benjamin and several senior officials of the club.
RHTYSC Cricket Manager Robby Kissoonalal will serve as the academy director and he stated that special emphasis would be placed on improving the batting, bowling and fielding ability of every academy member.
Additionally, a lot of classroom work would be done on a wide range of topics of importance to the young cricketers.
Topics to be covered include History of Cricket, Rules of the Game, Peer Pressure, Drug Abuse, Importance of Education and Importance of Discipline.
The club is providing all the necessary equipment, gear and stationery for the two weeks academy while over two $1.5 million dollars’ worth of gifts and prizes would be shared out to participants.
The Top Student would receive $500,000.00 worth of prizes including an electric bike, laptop computer, gold medallion, electronic tablet, cycle, household items, kitchen utensils and designer clothing.
The club is also providing an educational package worth seven thousand dollars ($7,000.00) to each academy member under its Basil Butcher Trust Fund. Another $1.5M worth of prizes would be distributed to members of the Grade Six Summer Camp
Plans for the successful hosting of the two events were given a major boost when the National Hardware, PRAMCORP Consultancy and Data Technology presented a major donation to the organiser.
National Hardware Ltd donated cricket gear among several prizes while PRAMCORP and Data Technology donated two hundred and thousand dollars’ worth of hard cover exercise books.

Parents who are interested in registering their children to the academy or the Summer Camp are advised that application forms are available at the Area ‘H’ Ground from 2 PM to 6 PM daily.
