St Ignatius motorcyclist fined $85,000 for drunk driving, defective brakes

A 60-year-old motorcyclist from St Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, has been fined $85,000 after pleading guilty to traffic offences in the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.

Cletus Rodulph appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan on Monday, June 1, 2026, charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle While Breath Alcohol Exceeded the Prescribed Limit and Maintenance of Brake on a Motor Vehicle.

The offences were committed on May 29, 2026, on Third Street, Lethem.

Rodulph pleaded guilty to both charges.

For the drunk-driving offence, he was fined $75,000 or, in default, seven weeks’ imprisonment.

He was also fined $10,000 or one week’s imprisonment for the brake-related offence.

The total fine imposed was $85,000 or, in default, eight weeks’ imprisonment.
