KARRAU resident Vernie Bristol has praised the Government of Guyana and local leadership for what she has described as remarkable development in the community, highlighting the new educational, technological, and agricultural facilities that are serving those living in the remote Region Seven village.

Speaking at a recent community engagement, Bristol said she has watched Karrau grow over the years and felt “very proud” of the transformation that is taking place.

She credited the government and the village councillors for a series of key projects, including a new nursery school, and, notably, a secondary school that now allows students to complete their education within the community.

“I’m very proud to see how my village has been developing over the years, all thanks to the Government of Guyana and Toshao, the councillor,” Bristol said, adding:

“We get a new nursery school… The most I’m very thankful for, we get the secondary school, which [means] our children can be able to go right here in the community… from nursery to primary to secondary.”

Bristol also highlighted the establishment of an ICT hub, describing it as “very helpful in the community”, as well as a food hub and a shade house, which have recently been producing food supplies for villagers.

“The food hub, the shade house that’s been producing over the months, lately, and the produce for villagers to be able to access from the shade house,” she noted.

In addition, Karrua has benefitted from the construction of a multipurpose building, which Bristol listed among the many things that have materialised in the village in recent years.

Expressing her gratitude, she said she was “very grateful and thankful” for the range of initiatives that, in her view, have significantly improved life in Karrau.

Meanwhile, according to Amelia Sugrim, a nursing assistant at the village health post, the community had been experiencing steady development, with significant improvements in education and healthcare infrastructure over the past few years.

The resident reported that Karrau Village now has a nursery school, primary school, and a secondary school that is approximately 80 per cent complete, alongside a functioning health post serving residents and surrounding communities.

“We also have the health post, which I work at, and we are trying our best with getting works done and getting to serve our people within the village. We know this would be impacting not only us but the population within Karrau,” she shared.
