POLICE are investigating the murder of a 55-year-old woman whose body was discovered inside her Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara house on Thursday night.

Dead is Surujdai Kahriu, called “Sharda”, a supervisor of the village.

According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that Kahriu lived with her two sons at the residence.

Sometime between 16:25 hrs and 22:40 hrs on Thursday, one of her sons returned home and discovered her lying motionless inside the house.

Police said the woman’s other son, a 24-year-old construction worker, was seen at the residence and was subsequently arrested and placed into custody. Ranks who processed the scene observed marks of violence on the body.

The body was later taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigators have also identified CCTV cameras in the vicinity, which are expected to be reviewed as part of the probe.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
