DICQUAL Osborne, a 27-year-old labourer of Albouystown, Georgetown and Sixth Avenue, Bartica, has been remanded to prison after being charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The charge was laid under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
Osborne appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 21, 2026, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until June 3, 2026, when the matter will continue.
The charge stems from an intelligence-led police operation conducted at Bartica on Wednesday night.
Police had escorted Osborne, who was already in custody in relation to a traffic offence, to a hotel room at First Avenue, Bartica, which he reportedly occupied.
During a search of the room, ranks allegedly discovered several bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with $184,000 in cash.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in Osborne’s presence and amounted to 762 grams before being lodged at the Bartica Police Station.
