THE 21st China Medical Team recently conducted an outreach at St. Cuthbert’s Mission, addressing the healthcare needs of residents.
The remote Region Four community has historically faced challenges regarding medical accessibility and a shortage of basic healthcare resources.
To address these needs, the China medical team provided diagnostic and treatment services in various disciplines, including internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
In addition to specialist consultations, the team performed free basic health screenings, including blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring, which were widely utilised by the community members.

Dr. Gustavo of the St. Cuthbert’s Health Centre highly praised the work of the Chinese doctors.
He noted that the outreach was of great significance for the village, as it brought high-quality specialised care directly to the residents’ doorsteps, saving many from having to make the difficult journey to the capital for treatment.
Dr. Li Huansong, Captain of the 21st China Medical Team for Guyana, emphasised that the initiative was tailored to meet the specific healthcare requirements of the local population.
He noted that providing “one-stop” medical services helps residents better understand their health status and promotes long-term wellness.
“This activity not only provides necessary medical care but also serves to further shorten the distance between the people of China and Guyana, deepening our long-standing friendship,” Dr. Li remarked.
