– five-day specialised training to modernise operational capabilities

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), in collaboration with the United States Embassy, on Monday, launched a five-day specialised training programme aimed at strengthening the Force’s capacity to manage critical incidents through improved command-and-control operations.
The training, which is being held at the Officers’ Training Centre at Camp Road, Georgetown, is being facilitated by experts from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and targets key personnel within the Force.

According to the GPF, the programme is designed to equip ranks with advanced skills in command-and-control management, critical incident planning, and operational coordination as part of ongoing efforts to modernise law enforcement capabilities in Guyana.
Facilitators are expected to provide participants with systematic and structured instruction through a combination of instructor-led lectures, practical exercises, and participant-driven group discussions. Officers will also be exposed to realistic scenarios intended to sharpen decision-making and leadership skills under pressure.
Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Ravindradat Budhram, who delivered brief remarks at the opening session, welcomed the facilitators and praised the continued partnership between the Guyana Police Force and United States law enforcement agencies.
“This ‘Command and Control’ training represents a vital chapter in the ongoing bilateral co-operation between our agencies,” Budhram said. “It is a testament to the fact that while our jurisdictions differ, the challenges of modern law enforcement and the tactical leadership required to meet them are universal.”
He encouraged participating officers to fully immerse themselves in the training and use the opportunity to enhance their leadership capabilities.
“Absorb the information like sponges,” the Deputy Commissioner urged. “Challenge yourselves to think critically under pressure so that your level of leadership can be expanded.”
Budhram further told participants that the completion of the programme would come with heightened expectations for their performance and leadership within the Force.
“When you leave this training, the expectations for your leadership will be higher,” he said.
The initiative forms part of broader co-operation between Guyana and the United States in areas of security, law enforcement training, and institutional capacity-building, as the Guyana Police Force continues to strengthen its operational readiness and response capabilities amid evolving public safety challenges.
