THE People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is once again putting its open-door approach on full display, with Vice-President Bharrat Jagdeo set to host another major Public Day event at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) today.
Jagdeo, alongside several Cabinet members and senior ministry officials, will meet directly with citizens from 10:00 hrs, offering Guyanese from any part of the country the chance to walk in and raise their concerns without the need for prior appointments, letters, or political affiliation.
The initiative forms part of the PPP/C administration’s wider strategy of direct, face-to-face engagement, designed to cut through bureaucratic delays and connect residents with decision-makers in a single setting.
Issues commonly raised at these sessions span housing and land allocation, social services, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), employment, public infrastructure, agriculture support, and a range of personal and community grievances.
Previous editions of Public Dday have drawn hundreds of Guyanese, with attendees consistently citing the open format as a rare opportunity to engage multiple ministries under one roof.
At past events, citizens have walked away with referrals, on-the-spot directives to relevant agencies, and, in many cases, immediate resolutions to long-standing matters.
The government officials have repeatedly stressed that no issue is considered too small or too large to be addressed.
Today’s event continues a clear pattern of direct outreach by the PPP/C government, which has paired the ACCC sessions with Cabinet-led regional engagements across the country’s 10 administrative regions.
Through those community-level visits, residents have been able to raise personal and community concerns directly with senior officials, including the Vice-President and line ministers.
The government representatives have framed the sustained engagement as a reflection of the administration’s governance philosophy, which prioritises accessibility and responsiveness. They have also pointed to the high turnout at past Public Days as evidence that citizens value the chance to interact with the leadership outside of formal channels.
With another large turnout anticipated at the ACCC today, the PPP/C is signalling that direct citizen engagement will remain a central feature of its approach, as the administration advances its 2025–2030 developmental agenda.
