THE Ministry of Public Works is calling for the removal of containers, trailers, and vehicles that are parked along the Eccles Access Road, and the Back Road in Georgetown.

According to two removal notices posted on the ministry’s Facebook page, owners of the containers situated along the Eccles Access Road are required to remove them within 24 hours. The ministry warned that as standard procedure, failure to remove these containers within the stated timeframe will see it doing so with the owner having to take responsibility for the cost.

The notice further stated that neither the ministry nor the government is interested in permanently withholding property. To reclaim seized property, owners will be required to visit the Ministry of Public Works to settle the outstanding removal costs before the items can be uplifted.

Similarly, the ministry calls for the owners of all vehicles and trailers situated along the Back Road, spanning from the DSL traffic light to the Mandela roundabout to remove their property within 24 hours as well.

In March, it was reported that the ministry was intensifying its national campaign to clear abandoned vehicles, encumbrances, and encroachments from the roadway.

At the time, Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, had said that the parapets do not belong to individuals or businesses, adding that these encumbrances are not just an eyesore, but can also serve as hideouts for criminal activities, threatening the safety of residents within the communities.

Additionally, it was said that Guyanese also have a role to play in reporting these cases to the Ministry of Public Works through its hotlines.

Persons can do so by sending a WhatsApp message to 624-2964. Contractors can contact the ministry on 624-2965.
