MINISTER within the Office of the Prime Minister Kwame McCoy reaffirmed that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is the best partner for progress, during Monday’s Government in Action Community Public Day series at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Member of Parliament Sanjeev Datadin thanked the residents for their time, and stressed the importance of the government’s commitment to continuous engagement to track and resolve community concerns.
Minister McCoy highlighted the importance of government–community partnerships, stressing that MPs and ministers share the responsibility of engaging citizens, and listening to their concerns.
He praised the President’s people centered leadership, and outlined goals for socio economic development: Creating jobs, upskilling, education, and empowering youth.
He also emphasised the importance of transparency and vigilance in contractor work.
Meanwhile, the minister took the opportunity to sensitise those gathered on new digital services like e Health appointments, Citizen Connect, Online cash grant signups, faster payments, and e wallet systems.
Residents were encouraged to take advantage of Online services and, where necessary, open bank accounts to access pensions and transfers.
Support for small entrepreneurs was underscored through a new development bank that will offer seed capital of up to G$3M, interest and-collateral free, with business plan support.
Present at the meeting were representatives from surrounding NDCs and the Little Diamond/Herstelling NDC Chairman Puneet Jaigopaul, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Public Works.
Support was given immediately to those who raised concerns. Plans and meetings were made, community problems were addressed, and personal matters were dealt with.
