A 46-year-old carpenter lost his life and seven others were injured after a structure under construction collapsed at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday evening.

Dead is Radish Domingo of Mon Repos.

Police said the incident occurred around 19:10 hrs on April 15, 2026, while the men were engaged in construction work on a two-storey concrete building.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the workers were in the process of completing work on the roof area when the structure suddenly collapsed, trapping several of them under debris.

Emergency responders from the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service were summoned and assisted in transporting the injured men to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and Sheriff Medical Hospital for treatment.

Domingo was found pinned under debris and was later removed from the scene and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was subsequently identified by a female relative and has since been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police said CCTV cameras in the area were observed and will be reviewed as part of the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.
