A 27-year-old labourer lost his life early Sunday morning following a tragic accident along the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The police reported that the fatal collision occurred around 05:45hrs on April 12, 2026, and involved motor car PAB 1013, driven by Keshon Arthur of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, and motor car PAM 3828, which was being operated by a 33-year-old Police Sergeant of Belmont, also in Mahaica. Arthur was pronounced dead on arrival at the Enmore Regional Hospital.

Initial investigations revealed that the police sergeant was driving west along the southern lane of the roadway when Arthur, who was heading east, reportedly overtook several vehicles and veered into the southern lane.

In an attempt to prevent an impact, the police sergeant is said to have pulled farther to the southern side of the road, but the two vehicles nonetheless collided, with Arthur’s car striking the right front side of the other vehicle.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were removed from the wreckage by public-spirited citizens and Emergency Medical Technicians.

They were taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital for medical attention, where Arthur was pronounced dead.

The police sergeant was admitted with a broken right leg and multiple lacerations to his face and body; his condition is listed as stable.

Arthur’s body was later escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
