THE new $1.8 billion Cotton Field Secondary School in Region Two is on track for completion by December, with Education Minister Sonia Parag urging contractors to accelerate works to meet the year-end deadline.
During a recent site visit, Minister Parag instructed that construction must continue around the clock to ensure timely delivery of the major education project, which is expected to significantly expand access to secondary education in the region.

The visit followed a comprehensive engagement with headteachers across Region Two, as part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education to assess and strengthen the delivery of education services nationwide. Accompanying the minister was a delegation of senior officials, including Permanent Secretary Shannielle Hoosein-Outar; Chief Education Officer, Saddam Hussain, and Chief Planning Officer, Mischka White-Griffith.
The team conducted a detailed inspection of the facility to ensure that construction meets the required standards ahead of its commissioning.
Once completed, the modern secondary school will accommodate approximately 1,000 students and is expected to play a critical role in strengthening educational infrastructure in Region Two. The facility will feature 35 classrooms, science laboratories, a large library, and sports amenities designed to support both academic and extra-curricular development.
Officials say the project forms part of the government’s broader push to enhance access to quality education and modernise school infrastructure across the country.
