A 15-year-old female student is in critical condition after she was allegedly stabbed during a domestic altercation at Heatburn Village, East Bank Berbice, on Tuesday evening.

The incident reportedly occurred around 19:40hrs on February 24, 2026, and involved a 28-year-old male, who has since gone into hiding. Police said the suspect and the teen reportedly share a child.

Preliminary enquiries revealed that the suspect went to a residence where the teen was at the time, and an argument ensued. During the altercation, the teen received several stab wounds about her body.

She was escorted to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital where she was treated and admitted to the Emergency Unit. Her condition has been listed as critical.

The police are currently making efforts to locate and arrest the suspect as investigations continue to address all relevant offences arising from the incident.
