Elite League Cup
ELITE League Champions Slingerz FC kicked off their Elite League Cup campaign with an 8-nil drubbing of Ann’s Grove on Wednesday evening at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Centre.
Slingerz, led by doubles from Darron Niles and Kemar Beckford defeated Ann’s Grove United FC 8-nil.
After kick-off in the feature contest, a pair of goals from Niles in the 12th and 23rd minutes coupled with Beckford’s first goal put Slingerz in a place of comfort with a 3-nil lead.
Midfielder Curtez Kellman then scored in the 31st minute as they went into the break with a 4-goal advantage.
After the resumption, Niles completed the hat-trick with his effort in the 49th minute of play.
A brace followed from the boots of Beckford, the Slingerz man finding a triple to take the score to 7-nil.
A late strike from Rashawn Ritch completed the rout in the 84th as the West Side giants took a statement win to get their Elite League Cup campaign on the road.
Meanwhile in the opening contest of the evening, Santos FC led by a Shakeel King 39th minute strike grabbed a 1-nil victory over Den Amstel.
The competition will see the winner collecting a million dollars with $700,000 for second place, and half a million for third place.
The Elite league Cup continues Saturday with a pair of matches, at 18:30hrs. Ann’s Grove will come up against Monedderlust FC and Western Tigers are set to meet Fruta Conquerors FC at the same venue.
