MODEC tertiary football competition…
AKADIAN Andrews and Clarence Charles were on target in the latest clashes in the MODEC Tertiary Football Tournament when action returned to the Scotts Ground in New Amsterdam Berbice this week.
Port Mourant Technical Institute finished with a 3-1 victory against New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
Andrews’ goal broke the silence 18 minutes into the piece then New Amsterdam Technical Institute’s Amare Caesar found the net in the 38th minute for the equaliser.
After both teams returned from the half, Andrews scored his second goal in the 53rd to give Port Mourant the lead 2-1.
In the last 10 minutes of the encounter, Clarence Charles registered his first and only goal to guide Port Mourant Technical Institute to the 3-1 victory.
Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre (UCITC) then played to a draw with University of Guyana Tain Campus 2-2.
UCITC had a pair of goals from Rarvon Simon coming in the 5th and 20th minutes.
University of Guyana Tain Campus’ Jaheim Elgin then helped them rebound as he scored back-to-back goals in the 30th and , 36th minutes to level the scores.
The matches are being hosted in the different regions where the tertiary schools are located with teams playing on a home-and-away, round-robin basis.
The top seven and the next best team will make up the quarter-final.
The top teams will be awarded $300,000, $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 for places 1-4 with proceeds going to a school project of their choice.
The tournament will conclude on March 8th at the Ministry of Education Ground.
