MINISTER of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat met with small and large forestry concession holders on Wednesday to discuss strategies for improving operations and performance within Guyana’s forestry sector.
The engagement, hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), brought together concessionaires, Permanent Secretary Joslyn McKenzie, Commissioner of Forests Edward Goberdhan, and senior staff from both agencies for an interactive discussion on operational practices and sector innovation.
During his remarks, Minister Bharrat emphasised the vital role of the forestry sector within Guyana’s natural resources portfolio. He encouraged concession holders to adopt innovative practices that enhance efficiency and productivity, while also highlighting opportunities for economic growth through value-added production.
“The forestry sector is a key contributor to our economy,” Minister Bharrat said. “It is essential that we explore new methods and approaches to improve performance and ensure that concessionaires can benefit from the full potential of value-added products.”
The meeting forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight, promote sustainable practices, and ensure that forestry operations contribute meaningfully to national development.
