A 38-year-old Georgetown businessman was, on Friday, remanded to prison after being charged with possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Lawrence Joseph, also known as “Tuggy,” of Republic Gardens, Georgetown, appeared before His Worship Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded not guilty to both offences.
Joseph was charged with Possession of a Firearm without a Licence and Possession of Ammunition without a Licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05. Bail was refused, and he was remanded to prison.
The charges follow his arrest by police on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in connection with a firearm and ammunition offence.
The matter has been adjourned to February 20, 2026.
