A WEST Bank Berbice man, with a prior conviction for vehicle theft, has been sentenced to 58 months’ imprisonment for the simple larceny of a motor car valued at $3.2 million.
Dinesh Persaud was sentenced on Monday by Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at Blairmont Magistrate’s Court, after trial.
Persaud was charged with the simple larceny of a Toyota Fielder wagon, licence plate PAG 8827, which he was accused of stealing on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice.
The vehicle was valued at $3.2 million.
According to police reports, the stolen vehicle was recovered on New Year’s Day at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, where it was found in Persaud’s possession following investigations.
The court also heard that Persaud, who resides at Lot 69 Blairmont #1 Settlement, West Bank Berbice, is not a first-time offender.
In 2021, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for larceny of a motor car.
