THE High Commission and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center Georgetown, in association with Brahma Kumaris Guyana, on December 21, celebrated World Meditation Day, underlining benefits of meditation for emotional, mental and physical well-being.
According to a press release, the event was attended by members of the Indian community and diaspora comprising Yoga and meditation enthusiasts.
The event included an introductory message by Sister Mohini from Brahmakumaris followed by a brief meditation session conducted by Sister Kinnari.

In his brief remarks, High Commissioner Dr Amit Telang highlighted the relevance of meditation in training and relaxation of mind and, in context of the World Mediation Day being observed by the United Nations, underscored mediation’s utility in promoting global peace and harmony.
Rooted in India’s ancient wisdom of meditation and inner awakening, the UN General Assembly’s declaration on December 6, 2024 of December 21 as World Meditation Day marked a global acknowledgment of mindfulness as a powerful path toward peace, well-being, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The day is celebrated across the globe to recall the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
