JUSTICE Roxane George-Wiltshire, S.C., has been sworn in to perform the duties of Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag), while Justice Navindra Singh will now perform the functions of Chief Justice (ag).

The two judges took their respective Oaths of Office before President, Dr Irfaan Ali at the Office of the President, on Monday.
These temporary appointments follow the commencement of leave by acting Chancellor Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards. Singh’s substantive post is Justice of Appeal.
In brief remarks at the ceremony, President Ali emphasised that the move was necessary to preserve the continuity and operational efficiency of the judiciary.
He described the appointments as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law—pillars, which he said, are critical to the strength of Guyana’s democratic institutions.
Justice Cummings Edwards and Justice George Wiltshire have both been serving in acting roles as Chief Justice and Chancellor, respectively, for more than five years. President Ali had previously addressed the importance of persons holding substantive positions, and affirmed his commitment to finding a solution.
