Guyana’s ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) launched its 2025 re-election campaign on Sunday (July 13, 2025) with a massive show of strength, drawing more than 30,000 red-
clad supporters to the streets surrounding Kitty Market Square in Georgetown.
Chanting “five more years” and waving PPP and national flags, the crowd turned out in force for the party’s official kickoff event ahead of the September 1 General and Regional Elections. The campaign is being run under the slogan, Forward Together for a Better Guyana.
Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips delivered a fiery speech targeting the opposition coalition, APNU, accusing it of using race to divide and marginalize those who cross ethnic or political lines.
“Diversity for them is an afterthought,” Phillips told the crowd. “We believe in diversity from day one, 75 years ago… this is a national party, a multiethnic party, all the people are here, all the people are included.”
Reflecting on attacks he’s faced for supporting the PPP/C, Phillips said, “I will be red till I dead… for the rest of my life I will be PPP/C.”
He urged supporters to stay focused and ensure they are registered to vote. “A vote, come September 1st, is a vote for continued advancement,” he said. “Be focused and serious.”
“Ensure your name is on the list and come September 1st, bright and early, you go out and put your ‘X’ next to the cup… don’t be distracted by any opposition.”
Closing his remarks on a note of unity and strength, Phillips declared, “The Red Army is bigger today than it ever was… thank you for being here in your large numbers and thank you for your support. We promise five more years of growth, five more years of development, five more years of PPP visionary leadership.”
