Vibert Johnson bellows an appeal as Khan and McCalmont got out for a leg bye in their opening partnership

UNDER a blue sky in sweltering heat, a raucous crowd at the Police Sports Club ground in Eve Leary watched as Region Two beat Tactical Service Unit by 47 runs in the latest match in the rain-affected Commissioner of Police (COP) T-20 Inter- Region cricket tournament on Thursday.
Scores: (Region Two 132 off 20 overs) TSU 85 all-out in 15.4 overs)

The Essequibian lawmen won the toss and opted to bat first, on a track with good pace and bounce, and a heavy outfield from the torrential rain, which washed out Wednesday’s game.
They were off to a solid but slow 48-run opening stand between Fazeer Khan (21), and the left-handed Jason McCalmont (18).
However, off-spinner Damion Sardinha was introduced in the ninth over, and struck twice in three balls, inducing McCalmont to hit catch to long-on before trapping Khan, LBW.
The fifty was posted in 10 overs before Dequan Campbell, who was looking set on 11, was bowled by the wily Sardinha.

Ramesh Chattergoon played some lovely shots in his 17 before he departed, and when Ovevi Latchman was brilliantly run out by a direct hit from the impressive Sardinha, Region Two were on the ropes on 81-7 in 17.4 overs.
It took a pugnacious unbeaten 22 from former Guyana U-15 batter Oyono Sampson, who hit two sixes and a four in an explosive 13-ball knock to rally his team to a three-figure total.

The burly right-hander shared an unbroken 51-run seventh-wicket partnership from just 20 balls, with Elton Grayham, whose 14 included consecutive sixes of the last two balls of the twentieth over.
Sardinha, who hit back over his head for six, had 3-13 from his four overs for TSU, who were bundled out with 4.2 overs to spare, despite 21 from Eon Rodrigues, 14 from Philot Wilburg, and 10 from Alex Burnett.
Khan returned with the ball to take 2-17, but it was the work of Placid Edwards (3-23) and Roopnarine Ramnarine (3-15), which undermined the crowd favourites, who were knocked out of the tournament.
Pre-tournament favourites, ‘Officers’, and Region 10 clash today from 11:00hrs.
