credits support, hard work, and ambition in achieving 27 CSEC subjects

AT just 17 years old, Gevasha Cyndu Harpaul has become a beacon of academic excellence, shining brightly among the top performers in this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
A student of Anna Regina Secondary School, Gevasha’s remarkable achievement of 27 subjects, including 15 Grade Ones and 12 Grade Twos, is a testament to her dedication, hard work, and the unwavering support of her family, teachers, and friends.
Born and raised in Lot 5 Reliance Village, Essequibo Coast Gevasha is the only child of Vishnu Harpaul, Credit Manager at the Institute of Private Enterprise Development (IPED), and Mobena Harpaul, Graduate Deputy Headmistress of Cotton Field Secondary. Her parents’ immense pride in their daughter’s achievements is palpable, as they have always nurtured her passion for learning and provided steadfast encouragement throughout her academic journey.

While Gevasha once dreamed of becoming a paediatrician, her experiences and interests have evolved, leading her to pursue a career in environmental engineering. Her future aspirations are broad and ambitious, with plans to further her studies at a university and a keen interest in entering the world of politics—an area that has always intrigued her.

Reflecting on her success, Gevasha expressed her profound satisfaction: “I am elated and at peace with my performance,” she said, acknowledging the challenges she faced along the way. The road to success was not without its difficulties, but with the love and support of her family, Gevasha navigated the pressures of her studies with grace.

One of the most significant challenges she encountered was balancing her revision with the completion of her School-Based Assessments (SBAs). However, Gevasha’s strong time management skills and dedication allowed her to overcome these hurdles. She credits her father, Vishnu, for helping her relax during stressful times by taking her on long drives, which became a source of solace and motivation.
To future students aiming to excel in multiple subjects, Gevasha offers valuable advice: “Time management and dedication are the keys to success.” Her words resonate with the wisdom gained through her own experiences, highlighting the importance of balancing work and well-being in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Gevasha’s success is not hers alone; she is quick to express her heartfelt gratitude to her parents, grandparents, relatives, and teachers—both at Anna Regina Secondary School and her lessons teachers—whose constant support and encouragement played a crucial role in her achievements.
Vishnu and Mobena Harpaul, her proud parents, recall that Gevasha has always been a top performer with an insatiable zest for learning. Her determination and focus have been evident from a young age, and her recent accomplishments are a natural continuation of her academic journey.
Gevasha’s story is more than just a tale of academic success; it is an inspiring narrative of what can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and the love and support of those around you. Her achievements serve as a powerful reminder to all students that with the right mindset and a strong support system, anything is possible. As Gevasha continues to pursue her dreams, she stands as an inspiration to others, proving that success is within reach for those who dare to dream and work tirelessly to make those dreams a reality.
