Keen competition on opening night
THE Opening night of the Toucan-Kraft Mac and Cheese Junior skill-level squash tournament commenced Tuesday night at the Georgetown Club Squash Courts on Camp Street with the competition being played between six teams.
This tournament serves as match practice for the Caribbean Championships and intends to simulate a high-pressure test to give the juniors the experience of playing against other players at their level.

The Junior Casa tournament is set for BVI this July. The players have been training for eight consecutive weeks with a five-day training regimen.
Among the games that stood out were the ‘David and Goliath’ match between 11-year-old Ethan Bulkan and 17-year-old Blake Edwards.
Although the burly Edwards won the match 3-nil the pint-size Bulkan demonstrated good Squash skills but could not maintain the intensity on his bigger opponent.

Last night
In the ‘must-win’ third game Bulkan, who looked fitter and faster than his opponent, got a 4-1 lead before Edwards scored six points while Bulkan only managed a single point as the score moved to 7-5.
Bulkan, who seemed frustrated after playing some loose backhand drives into the tin, levelled the score at 7-7 with well-executed drop shots but Edwards won the game and match 11-9.
Another entertaining match was the one between the cousin of Professional Squash player Mary Fung-a-Fat, Emily Fung-a-Fat and her male opponent Justin Goberdan who emerged victorious 12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10.
