–$127M invested to uplift communities

LESS than three weeks after promises made by Vice-President Bharrat Jagdeo to residents of East and West Ruimveldt, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government has invested $127 million to improve the communities’ infrastructure.

Contractors from both communities on Friday signed contracts to construct concrete walkways, culverts, bridges, and cul-de-sacs, among other works, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar said on his official Facebook page on Friday.

Minister Indar told residents at the ‘Back Circle’ signing ceremony that the community-participation projects are indicative of the PPP/C Government’s efforts to work alongside residents to build their community.

While urging the contractors to execute their work professionally, so that taxpayers can have value for money, the Minister said the projects will build their capacity to execute other works in the country.

Minister Kwame McCoy, who also attended the event, noted that the investment is evidenced by the Administration’s people-centred approach to governance, and its track record of honouring its promises to Guyanese.

The Ministry of Public Works’ Force Account Unit embarked on a task to rehabilitate 45 roads at East and West Ruimveldt, as well as Alexander Village in keeping with promises made by the Vice- President at outreaches in the communities at reference. Works in Alexander Village have so far been completed.
