CANU intercept vehicle with cocaine in Cornelia Ida village

IN a targetted operation led by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Thursday, officers intercepted a vehicle on the Cornelia Ida Public Road, West Coast Demerara and made a significant discovery.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, CANU officers uncovered ten brick-like parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, suspected to contain cocaine.

Following the discovery, Sahadeo Prasad, aged 39 and a resident of Grant 104 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, was promptly apprehended by authorities.

He was escorted to CANU’s Headquarters for further questioning, alongside the suspected narcotics, which subsequently tested positive for cocaine.

While Prasad remains in custody, investigations into the matter are currently underway. CANU continues to employ intelligence-led operations to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and security of Guyana’s communities. Further details regarding the case are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
