THE Ministry of Home Affairs launched the Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) platform on Wednesday to simplify transactions at the Guyana Fire Service and Guyana Prison Service.

The service was introduced at the Ministry’s headquarters in Brickdam, Georgetown. Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Benn, expressed his excitement at entering the electronic transaction era, despite being a little late to the movement.

He stated that this action would alleviate public frustration by eliminating the need to travel for payments and ensuring adequate staff for physical paperwork.

“These issues are critically important where people have to spend more quality time improving lives, improving efficiency and creating a more holistic environment where we work together to provide proper services to people,” Benn said.

Against this backdrop, the minister said that his ministry and the government have been working to improve processes at the strategic management level and also putting resources in relation to assets, to improve services among other things.

He emphasised that such a move was important while noting that they have to find more ways in which they can spread this initiative across the agencies of the Ministry.

Bobita Ram, General Manager at MMG, stated that the decision-makers had the citizens of Guyana in mind when introducing this reliable payment method.

She added, “We at MMG are honoured to support this initiative taken by the Guyana Prison Service and the Guyana Fire Service. Your commitment to modernisation and efficiency exemplifies a shared vision for a more accessible and convenient future for all of Guyana.”

The decision to implement this service was in the works as just months ago the Ministry and MMG met to discuss ways in which they can make things easier for citizens.

Ram explained in an example that, if a person needs to pay for a petrol licence, instead of travelling to the Guyana Fire Service, he/she can simply log into his/her MMG account, go to government services, choose Guyana Fire Service, choose petrol licence and make the payment immediately.
“It’s that easy, it’s the tap of a finger in the palm of your hands,” Ram said.
