Amsterdam beaten in finals on Wednesday night.
But both Guyanese Boxers qualify for Pan Am Games in Chile
DESMOND Amsterdam lost on Wednesday night in finals to Keven Emmanuel Beausjour of Canada in the AMBC Continental Champions Qualification Pan American Games Qualifiers Cali, in Colombia, after knocking out Trujillo Barillas in his semi-final clash on Monday night.
In Monday night semis, the Guyanese Boxers — Olympian Keevin Allicock and Amsterdam — experienced contrasting fortunes, with Allicock losing by a split decision after sustaining a cut which carried three stitches above his right eye.
Despite the loss for Allicock, both he and Amsterdam have already qualified for the Pan Am Games scheduled for October/November in Santigo, Chile.
Speaking from Colombia, Technical Director of Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Terrence Poole (MS), informed that the two-man team performed very well and he was pleased that both pugilists have qualified for the Pan Am Games.
Poole, coach of the Guyana Defence Force Boxing Gym, said Allicock was patched up and has three stitches.
“He is OK now …it’s nothing serious, it’s already closed up and he is recovering well,” said Poole (Sean Devers)
