CONVICTED serial burglar Christopher Gonsalves, also known as “White Boy,” was fatally stabbed by a homeowner during a break-in at a property on Chalmers Place and Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown.
The incident took place on Monday around 11:30 a.m., according to police headquarters.
According to the police, one of the occupants was at home watching television when he heard a scream coming from the bedroom, prompting him to investigate.
He rushed to the scene and found Gonsalves in the kitchen, leading to a confrontation and a scuffle between the two.
During the altercation, Gonsalves, armed with a knife, and allegedly stabbed the first homeowner in the chest, causing him to collapse in pain.
Meanwhile, the second homeowner arrived home and discovered his colleague on the kitchen floor with Gonsalves standing over him with a knife. In self-defence, the second homeowner armed himself with a knife as well.
Gonsalves reportedly charged at the second homeowner, resulting in a struggle during which the latter retaliated by stabbing Gonsalves multiple times.
The fatal blows struck Gonsalves in the upper right shoulder, lower left-side abdomen, and three times in his back, causing him to collapse.
The second homeowner raised an alarm and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) from the Alberttown branch of the Guyana Fire Service responded to the scene. Gonsalves’ body was examined, and he was pronounced dead.
The body was then taken to the Memorial Funeral Home where it is awaiting a post-mortem.
The first homeowner sustained injuries to his upper chest, left and right index fingers, and right arm, while the second homeowner injured the knuckles on his right hand.
Both individuals were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by the EMTs, where they are currently receiving medical attention under police guard. The investigation is ongoing.
Gonsalves had a criminal history and was well known to the police and courts.
He had previously served three years in prison for attempting to bribe a police officer to avoid a narcotics charge and was recently sentenced to eight months imprisonment for a break and enter and larceny offence.
He also faced charges related to armed robberies and burglaries.
